High water bills bringing you down this summer? If so, we have the irrigation controller you need to reduce those high water bills without sacrificing your lawn and landscape to the heat of the summer.
Below you will find links to information on the latest in water conservation technology. This breakthrough in lawn irrigation has come about recently due to drought conditions facing many communities throughout the United States.
We at Husker Outdoors have had the privilege of installing many new Irritrol Smart Dial sprinkler controllers throughout the Twin Cities area with phenomenal results in reducing water consumption on area lawns. We have also found the Irritrol Smart Dial has become a success for property owners who want to “set it and forget it”, since the Smart dial will automatically increase or decrease run times depending on weather conditions.
The Smart Dial works best when installed with a system that has true head to head coverage and the rotors and sprays are not on the same zone/station. The Smart Dial must also be programmed specifically for each sites unique characteristic, and not just left in the default settings. It also works with either pre-existing or newly installed rain sensors. Plus, you don’t need a battery to hold its memory when the power fails!
However, we have also found that these new controllers have increased water consumption for some property owners that have existing systems which have been retro fitted with a Smart Dial. We contribute this problem to poorly designed systems, systems that had original controllers mis-programmed, rotors and sprays that are on the same zone/station and sprinkler systems that were manually reset daily or weekly. If you have a poorly designed sprinkler system that has “dry spots” due to poor coverage or area’s that are not being watered this controller will not solve those problems.
This new technology also offers water management tools for large or small commercial and residential property owners.
These water management tools allow Husker Outdoors to automatically, turn on, shut off, reset run times, reset start times or completely reprogram each controller wirelessly from our office using only or computer and the World Wide Web. This is a great tool for town home complexes, apartment buildings, or large commercial properties where water use is high.
Another new tool in the works will possibly allow each controller to identify specific zones that use an abnormal amount of water when operating. This represents a possible leak or broken head that wastes water. The controller may be able to identify this problem area, track the zones/stations water consumption, and provide actual water usage for each run cycle. We will be watching and inquiring about this possible option regularly.
